The Guardian: BELTRAIDE to open First Small Business Development Center in Belize

The Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE) plans to open the first Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Belize later this year. Cliff Paredes from the University of Texas at San Antonio is one of the trainers. He explained that SBDCs are extremely beneficial to the community. Businesses that access the service of such centers are more likely to succeed. As businesses succeed and expand, more jobs are created. Business expansion and job creation also mean an increase in government revenue. Therefore, the services provided by SBDCs benefit businesses, government and the labor force.

The Barbados Advocate: Small business in focus

During the new fiscal year, the Ministry of Industry Small Business and Rural Development will be seeking to further enhance the Small Business sector. This was announced by the Hon. Denis Kellman, Minister of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, during this address at the recent St. Peter Constituency Council's health and entrepreneurship fair. He revealed that some of the initiatives include the establishments and management of a Sector database, through which the growth of the sector can be monitored; and the establishment of a Small Business Development Center with the view of creating a one-stop shop for small businesses where their various challenges can be addressed, advice given and information shared.

St. Lucia HTS News: SBDC Stakeholder consultation

A one day stakeholder consultation was hosted in Saint Lucia on adapting the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Project to the Saint Lucia business environment. The initiative forms part of the Caribbean Small Business Development Center (SBDC) project which is modeled on similar SBDC programs in the United States. The initiative partners the Organization of the American States and the Caribbean Export Development Agency with the UTSA Small Business Development Center Programs.
